It’s time for a new year Threads of Change community busy bee! Come along Sunday 20 Jan 12-4pm, and join me and Louise from the Art of Fit for an afternoon of making reusable produce bags, creating community & sharing tips & skills for living lighter.
In this sewing busy bee we will be making reusable produce bags from fabric remnants, donations and upcycled fabric, helping to divert fabric from landfill and creating a plastic free alternative! Use your reusable & washable bags to reduce single use plastic and buy your loose fruit and vegetables from supermarkets & farmers markets 🍎🥕🍇🥔🥒. We will be making bags for both ourselves to take home and also to donate to the wider community, in previous workshops we have donated these bags to an initiative currently running in Perth’s Organic on Charles see here for more info.
We will have a simple draw-string bag template available to use, some fabrics and sewing tools to use (Sewing machines, scissors, thread etc). Please also bring what you can…any fabric remnants, donated fabric and clothing items for upcycling can be used, this is a great way to divert old fabric from landfill too. We will also have hessian fabric from old coffee bean bags to use…these make great reusable bags for potatoes, carrots and other veggies. .
This community space is also a great place to share skills and learn new tips for living lighter. This month there will also be the opportunity to explore making homemade lip balm. After my recent new year spring clean, I found some organic cosmetic beeswax left over from our beeswax wrapper workshop that would be great for making simple, earth-friendly, body-loving beauty products at home. This month i’m making efforts to ensure my beauty products are earth-friendly and thought it would be a great skill to learn at home.
This is a co-created event, we are pooling resources, skills, ideas and a collective group intention to create something new! The ripple effect begins with each of us… so bring along your creativity, ideas, passion and laughter and let’s see what we can create and change together! ♻️🌏☀️💚
