Boomerang Bag - Busy Bee

  • Threads of Gaia Doubleview Australia (map)

Hello creators & change-makers! Join local Perth makers; Kate (of Threads of Gaia) and Louise (of The Art of Fit) at our community collab workshop and make your own reusable produce bags.

This community workshop is a place to come together, to create together, to share together and make a difference together! ✌️♻️🌏

Come along and make your own boomerang produce bags as a positive step forward in helping to reduce and replace the huge amount of single-use, plastic food packaging ending up in landfill on the daily. Use your reusable & washable bags to buy your loose fruit and vegetables from supermarkets & farmers markets 🍎🥕🍇🥔🥒. We will be making them for both ourselves and for sharing with our local community.

The boomerang bag initiative was originally founded in Queensland, it is a community driven movement run by volunteers with aims to reduce plastic pollution by engaging communities to make reusable bags and make a difference.

We will have a simple draw-string bag template available to use, some fabrics and sewing tools to use (Sewing machines, scissors, thread etc). Please also bring what you can…any fabric remnants, donated fabric and clothing items for upcycling can be used, this is a great way to divert old fabric from landfill too. We will also have hessian fabric from old coffee bean bags to use…these make great reusable bags for potatoes, carrots and other veggies. Whilst our focus is on using remnants or upcycling old fabrics, we can also supply organic cotton mesh to purchase if you would like, let us know if you are interested.

This is a co-created event, we are pooling resources, skills, ideas and a collective group intention to create something new! The ripple effect begins with each of us… so bring along your creativity, ideas, passion and laughter and let’s see what we can create and change together! ♻️🌏☀️💚

  • Sewing machine (if you have one)

  • Fabric remnants

  • Machine cotton thread (if you have some)
